Cornwall or Caribbean? Take the quiz.

White sand, tick. Turquoise sea, tick. Fantastic surf, locally-sourced seafood, lush greenery, far-reaching views, water sports, space to sunbathe, blue skies and sumptuous sunsets, palm trees, and delicious cold drinks on tap – tick, tick and tick. This is the picture we all paint when thinking of an escape to the sun. Well, all these features exist in the same order, here in the UK – unbelievable, maybe but true.

To prove this point, with a pretty eloquence, UK travel brand, Stay In Cornwall has devised a fiendishly tricky pictorial quiz for you, called ‘Kernow? err…no!’  Can you tell the difference between a picture of a beach in Bali and a beach in Cornwall?

Already, the vast majority of people that have had a crack at this quiz have been unable to tell the difference between them. The quiz takes players through ten different holiday scenarios; from surfing to secret gardens, with Kernow cleverly concealing itself amongst breathtaking images of golden sunsets that set the sky alight and turquoise oceans with crashing waves.

Ever since the rise of foreign travel, the ‘staycation’ has been viewed unfairly as a second-best option. This head-scratcher of a puzzle is set to change popular opinion and re-set the balance. The UK’s beaches can compete with the beautiful swathes of sand in far-flung places like Bali, Cayman Islands, Jamaica, Australia and beyond.

Even Stay In Cornwall’s own marketing manager, Jo Price was left bamboozled by the quiz, “This is genuinely one of the hardest quizzes I’ve ever played! We know just how much this beautiful county has to offer holidaymakers and wanted to create a quiz that would pit Kernow against some of the most beautiful holiday hotspots around the world. We’re delighted to see that Cornwall is easily holding its own and really hope this encourages more people to consider visiting this year.”

You may be thinking of scaling down your travelling ambitions this year; the airport obstacle courses are becoming too much of a chore and the allure of a long-distance flight has dimmed to virtually nothing.  Maybe it’s time to enjoy all those places a bit closer to home – it’s easy to forget how beautiful England can be – especially the South-West.

As popular as Cornwall is at the height of summer, there are still dozens of beaches that are off-the-beaten-track and reward the effort of striking out alone. Have another peek at the photos in this featured quiz, they really haven’t been manipulated to look like a faraway exotic beach, promise!

So now you’ve taken the time to do the test your knowledge, how good was your score? Don’t be shy about sharing your scores on your social media like Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
