There aren’t many of these left nowadays – but at Schlesischer Park between Kreuzberg and Treptow a former watchtower has been preserved. In 1990 things were different, and when visiting Berlin with a friend we stayed the night in a watchtower overlooking the Reichstag, but that’s another story…

Pingback: 5 outdoor activities in Berlin
Please notice there is an other authentic watchtower of the Berlin Wall near Potsdamer Platz, preserved by my private initiative. These round types were the first built of concrete from 1966, more than 200 existed in Berlin. It is the last and only one remaining. So this tower is also the oldest part of the Berlin Wall.
Sincerely,
Jörg Moser-Metius
Hi Jorg and thanks so much for pointing this out. This must be the one in Erna-Bergerstrasse? I was told it was still there, hidden a little behind a new building. The last time I was in Berlin I was unable to find it but I was in a bit of a hurry and had a poor map – I will use your website to find it next time when I am in the city 🙂 Great initiative by the way, I hope you get the funding you deserve. I will contact you early next year when I will be in Berlin for a visit!
