When it opened in 1930, the Merchandise Mart in Chicago was the largest building in the world with 4,000,000 square feet (372,000 m2) of floor space. It’s still impressive, and best seen from the excellent river tour run by the Chicago Architecture Foundation River Cruise (as here, hence the heads)
