It’s impossible not to compare the merely cursory safety measures at Guimarães, and this is more than you’ll find at most castles in Portugal, with the over-the-top public protection in the UK. In this case, I would have welcomed a handrail! Andy Higgs 30 Oct 2012 Yes that’s true, the days when you’d be allowed to risk this in Britain are long gone. A hand rail would have been nice though, if rather less authentic 🙂 Travel 30 Oct 2012 Yes, these steps are looking dangerous but if i get chance to see old forts i don’t care.
