  1. I remember being quite scared when I went up these steps.

    It’s impossible not to compare the merely cursory safety measures at Guimarães, and this is more than you’ll find at most castles in Portugal, with the over-the-top public protection in the UK.

    In this case, I would have welcomed a handrail!

    1. Yes that’s true, the days when you’d be allowed to risk this in Britain are long gone. A hand rail would have been nice though, if rather less authentic 🙂

  2. Yes, these steps are looking dangerous but if i get chance to see old forts i don’t care. Being a civil engineer i am really interested to know about old forts construction techniques.
