Babes In The Wood: How To Introduce Your Kids To Camping

As far as getaways go, there are few trips that can bring a family together like camping. Far too often a family vacation ends up involving everyone doing something separate with the kids probably glued to their phones the entire time. but if you want a trip where you all come together to really make it as fantastic as possible as a team, then camping is the perfect option for you.

Of course, a lot of the time kids can be pretty reluctant to give up all of the modern conveniences that they’re so used to so you’ve got to be able to introduce them to camping in a way that’s going to excite them. With that in mind, here are some great ways to introduce your kids to camping.

Pick the right time of year

Let’s face it unless you’re a seasoned camper; it’s pretty likely that you’re not exactly going to love the idea of spending a trip somewhere cold and wet with little more than a canvas to protect you from the elements. If you’re taking your kids camping for the first time, then pick a time of year where the weather will be nice.

That way they’re far less likely to mind the amount of time that they have to spend outside because they’ll get to enjoy the warm sunshine. Not only that but they’ll sleep much better when they’re not shivering with cold at night.

Get them involved

The best way to get kids excited about camping is to get them involved with everything. Pitch the tent together and get them to help with meals in the evening. Since you’re not going to have a kitchen to work from then, meals will probably be pretty simple. (Tins of beans are always a good thing to pack.)

This means that they can get far more involved with the cooking than they might at home. There are plenty of fun, simple activities you can do together. Setting up and starting your own campfire is a fantastic activity that both you and your kids can get involved with.

Get yourself a high-quality camping knife from a company like KnivesShipFree.com, and you can teach them how to shave wood for the fire not to mention how to light it themselves. Being able to do this is sure to make them feel like genuine survivalists.

Find somewhere beautiful

What is camping for if not getting back to the beauty of nature? So then why not wow your kids by taking them somewhere stunning. There’s nothing like the feeling of stepping out of the tent in the morning and being met by the view of rolling hills or awe-inspiring mountains.

You’ll be able to give your kids a new appreciation of the natural world around them while also helping them to make memories that are going to stay with them for the rest of their lives. Who knows, maybe they’ll decide to bring their own kids camping one day.
