Choosing to whisk your family away on holiday is smart because it’s an opportunity for you all to bond and have a break from the chaos of everyday life. However, keep in mind that it won’t be an easy process unless you prepare and plan ahead.

Your goal is to make travelling with your family as easy as possible on you. Put measures in place that will help you avoid any confusion and unwanted obstacles along the way. Use the following tips to help guide you in creating a trip that will have you feeling happy, relaxed and glad you decided to get away.

Plan Ahead

Your trip is going to be that much more stress-free and enjoyable when you have a plan in place for where you’ll be going and staying. Sit down as a group and make a list of possible destinations and talk about each one until you can all come to a conclusion about where you want to visit. Take into account the weather, your budget and how many days you prefer to be away. Make sure to book your flight and hotel reservations in advance so you can lock in a good price.

Pack Light

This isn’t a good time to try to smash all you own into a suitcase and call it a day. You should all work together to pack as light as possible and make it a point to take small pieces of luggage. Discuss with each other what the weather is going to be like and any necessary outfits you’ll need to bring along for hikes or dinners out together. Overpacking will make it difficult to maneuver through the airport and cause you unnecessary frustrations if you find yourself trying to get through a crowd of people.

Find Activities you all can Enjoy

Travelling is a lot easier with older kids so think about this when you’re planning a family getaway. One activity your group may like is to visit the STL Escape Room and challenge yourselves to work as a team and strengthen your familial bonds. Always remember to make these types of decisions early and book your tickets well in advance to secure your spot.

Get Enough Sleep & Rest Often

Sleep is critical to you and your family surviving multiple days away together as a group. Make sure you get to bed early each night and don’t stay up too much later than you normally would at home. It’s important to remain on your sleep schedule even when you’re away on holiday. In addition, take breaks and rest often. Keep in mind you don’t always have to be going and exploring to have a good time. You’re there to relax and unwind your mind and body as well.

Travelling with the family will soon become a chore if you don’t prepare ahead of time. Make it a fun experience by using these suggestions to help ensure you have a lovely time away. When in doubt remember to stay in the moment and simply enjoy the fact that you don’t have to attend to your usual responsibilities.

Like everyone else, I love to travel, have visited a lot of countries and all that but my big thing is Africa.

I also own and run The Grown-up Travel Company as a travel designer creating personalised African itineraries for experienced adventurers
