Travelling is an activity that many people have adopted as a hobby, whether they are taking trips around the country or further afield, to exotic locations. Some people have even managed to turn their love of travelling into a career, but whatever your reasons for doing it, you cannot avoid long train or bus journeys, long-haul airplane flights, delays and other issues.

Therefore it is best to know how to amuse yourself on these occasions and this article will detail some ideas for that.

Reading

It is always wise to pack a magazine or book in your luggage when you are going to be spending a lot of time on a bus, train or plane – but if you forget you can always buy them at the airport or station. Even if reading is not one of your regular pastimes, it will help make a dull journey go by a lot more quickly. You could even choose a book about the place you travelling to, so that you know more about it when you arrive and build your anticipation levels.

Watching a film

The in-flight movie is one of the most well-known forms of entertainment during long plane journeys and – even if the film on offer isn’t exactly your taste – it is worth giving it a go, as you may find your tastes are broader than you thought. Some flights offer passengers a wider choice of film via personal screens, which will solve that problem for you. Admittedly, buses and trains don’t provide this option, but if you have a tablet or a laptop you can still watch a film of your choice.

Listening to music

Get hold of either an MP3 Player or a smartphone and you will be able to store a massive number of songs on a very small device, providing you with a practically unlimited choice. Listening to your favourite songs is a great way to lift your spirits if you are feeling a bit down in the dumps and bored during the journey.

Online gaming

Should you have access to either an iPad tablet or a laptop computer then you can use that to play a range of different games during the journey. If it is quite a long journey then a deep role-playing or action game – or a casino game like blackjack – will be ideal. On the other hand, if the travel time is shorter, you will find quick puzzle games and online casino options such as the slots will be a better choice.

Meeting people

Getting up and going for a stroll during the journey can be a good way of passing some time, as it will give you the opportunity to meet somebody new. Somewhere such as the dining car is the ideal place to strike up a conversation with anyone who looks friendly and the conversation will certainly relieve your boredom. Furthermore, the person you talk to might just turn into a lifelong friend.

These helpful pointers will certainly help ensure that your next journey feels like a smooth ride rather than an uphill slog.
