Manchester manhole caover from Things to Do when Visiting Manchester

Top Three Things to Do when Visiting Manchester for the First Time

Planning a visit to Manchester? This is a city with a huge amount to offer the passing tourist. There are world-class sporting facilities, incredible historic buildings, and a host of amazing bars and restaurants to consider. In many senses, the city is becoming very similar to London – and many of the world’s most popular artists and acts are choosing to perform here.

But if you only have a limited amount of time available during your visit, what should your priorities be? Let’s consider three of the most pressing ones.

Explore the Northern Quarter

If you’re looking for the cultural heart of the city, you’ll find it in the Northern Quarter. There are countless amazing independent shops, cafes, restaurants, and other unique small businesses in the area. It’s a haven for creatives, with buskers and street art in abundance.

Visit the Bundobust Indian restaurant, which offers and excellent vegan-friendly menu. Then, head over to the National Football Museum, which is housed inside what used to be the URBIS museum, and tells the story of the world’s most famous sport over four thrilling floors.

Visit the Science and Industry Museum

The second entry on the list is the Science and Industry Museum. To get there in a reasonable time, it’s easier to take a taxi or to drive. Opting for a choosing a used BMW car to get around the area is a great idea to not only save on money but BMW series cars are also reliable and have high end technology.

The Science and Industry Museum, as you might expect, tells the story of discovery and innovation that’s defined the region. You’ll find it just off Lower Byron Street, around the corner from the Crystal Maze Experience. The museum offers a range of interesting, interactive exhibits – including in-depth looks at textiles, trains, and even the world’s first computer.

Tour Old Trafford or the Etihad Stadium

Of course, much of Manchester’s modern image is built around its footballing history. Until relatively recently, this was dominated by Manchester United – but Manchester City have spent the last decade making up for lost time.

Both clubs have impressive stadiums – so you might take your pick. A tour won’t just appeal to football fans, but also to those looking to soak up the broader culture of the region.

Of course, depending on how long your trip is, there are a host of other attractions and experiences that you might want to consider. The nightlife is amazing, the people are friendly, and there are things to do and see here that can’t be seen elsewhere. So, plan your trip extensively, and be sure to enjoy yourself!
